Some people can be a freelance web designer and really enjoy it, while it just doesn’t work for other people. Finding customers can be difficult and it may be hard to keep a constant flow of them. After many years and time spent building your reputation, you may begin to reach a level of stability. Some people may be fine with this but others may not enjoy the hassle of searching for customers and the feeling of uncertainty.
Another problem that some people may have with being a freelance web designer, is the responsibility. When you are a freelancer you are responsible for all of the tasks in designing the website. If you were working for someone else you would have one job, like being the front-end developer. Not only would you have to design the website but you would also have to do marketing, sales, accounting, and support. This may be a good job for some and not for others.
Vacation is another difficulty in working as a freelance web designer. You may find it difficult to get time off since no one can take your place while you are gone. Then when you get away from your office you will probably take your laptop because your clients will continue to send you work while you’re gone.
Personally, being a freelance web designer would not be a fitting job for me because I wouldn’t want to do all of the work alone or search for clients.
