On Friday, December 15, 2023, CVHS had its winter edition of Clash of the Classes, which consisted of introducing the winter sports teams and playing holiday-themed games.
As students made their way down to the gym after 5th block, they were accompanied by the marching band playing the usual hype song. Staff stood by the doors directing students to their designated sides of the gym.
The rally started off by introducing the cheerleaders. They did a chant and formed two lines where the winter sports players would soon walk through.
Next to be introduced were the girls and boys basketball teams, swimming team, rifle team, and bowling team.
Next, the CVHS STEP Team made their way onto the floor. They came in with a chant, got into their correct spots, and stood in the attention stance until the crowd died down. They then did some of their routine moves and added in a few surprises.
Then the time everyone was waiting for had arrived; the games were explained, rules were told, many students volunteered, and were ready to go. They were ready to compete against the other graduating classes for the trophy.
Caitlyn Hertzog, junior, was asked whether or not she enjoyed the rally. She replied, “I liked the sleigh part, where the boy ran into the table.”
The games ranged from knockout, to collecting gifts on a skateboard, to taking items from the crowd, to decorating teachers with wrapping paper!
You didn’t have to be on the floor to participate in the games. There were screams, shouts, claps, and stomps coming from the stands. As time went on people began to get less and less hyped, and energetic. All except for the freshman.
At the end of the rally, the freshman ended up taking the win. This is a rare event in Buckskins history. Craig Koberstein, junior said, “I didn’t like the pep rally…because the freshman won.”
A senior who wants to remain anonymous said, “I think it was fine…I think I liked it just because I wanted to go home. Mr. Shenk said that at the end we were supposed to do the Buckskin rumble, but at the end all of the juniors and seniors got up and left.”
Although the upper classes had some mixed feelings about the rally, many students enjoyed the change of pace from class. It was a good way to get out the winter sports teams, to make them more known, and to have a little fun before the holiday break!
