The Rill Gym was filled with screams on Friday, September 27th as the Conestoga Valley Student Council held their annual Homecoming pep rally. Games, escort performances and dancing filled everyone with school spirit. After the intense showdown, the seniors came out victorious, beating the junior class by a landslide.
The senior class started out hot with multiple first place finishes, freshmen and sophomores quickly fell behind as the first half of games came to a close. CVHS English teacher and Student Council advisor Mr. Shenk loved the energy: “Seniors brought it, so that always makes it fun”.
After the first half of games, the Homecoming court and escorts brought the energy as they each performed their unique handshakes and dances. Senior Carson Miller expressed his excitement to be a part of the pep rally, “I loved being a part of the pep rally because it gets everyone involved and encourages school spirit.”
After the dance, seniors continued to dominate, while the juniors were trying to stay afloat in the race to first place. The sophomore and freshman class were at the bottom of the leaderboard for just about every game. Freshman Tyson Schaub said, ”I had a lot of fun for my first pep rally even though we didn’t come close to winning.”
As the games came to a close, the senior class jumped ahead of the race and easily claimed the spirit stick. Their section filled the gym with screams and cheers, as the other classes went quiet as they watched the seniors celebrate.
After all of the fun and games were over, none of it would have happened if it wasn’t for the CV Student Council. After countless meetings, the group had to plan it out for months in advance, and set it all up at the crack of dawn to bring the school its beloved pep rally. Mr. Shenk added, “the group has to come in pretty early to set up everything… and it all pays off well”.
CV senior and Student Council vice president Nestor Nguyen expressed the group’s dedication: “everybody was able to do their job, and everything went relatively well.” He added, “everyone seemed to be enjoying it, too.”
Student Council plans to prepare for the Powder Puff football game next, and eventually the second pep rally at the end of the year.
