Conestoga Valley School District has an annual bonfire where all the students, staff and family gather to celebrate the start of the school year and to raise money for organizations for students and people in need. People around the district love coming to the bonfire to gather to see their kids that do sports that go on the stage to talk about their success.
Hillary Rojas (10) attended the bonfire and stated, “I loved all the food they had at the bonfire this year.” There is always a variety of food at the bonfire like walking tacos, cookies, drinks, nachos and more. Lots of students and teachers volunteer to keep the stands running.
Although it rained ever so slightly during this year’s bonfire, CV staff still kept the bonfire itself up. Destiny Hoover (12) said, “I really enjoy going to the bonfire with my friends. It gives me a chance to see old teachers and friends I don’t get to see every day.”
Students see this bonfire as a bonding and fun experience. Kayla Hoover (11) said, “I think the bonfire is so fun, I love how everyone is so cheery and enjoying themselves.”
The bonfire gives people a chance to connect with each other and donate to good causes. Kelsey Wendling (10) said, “I believe the bonfire creates a good cause. It raises money for people and the school and I get to hangout with my friends which I like.” Whether donating to the stands around or even buying food, all that money goes to some kind of cause.
CV’s bonfire is another way to build community between our local schools and adults. Ms. Kerry Briggs, a Culinary teacher at CV shared mutual feelings when she said, “I like that it builds community.” Many people attend to build connections and rebond with people.
Ilee Macdougle (12) said, “Everyone around gets to hangout with friends and family, it all just gives out a good vibe. I really enjoy the games around and it’s all for a good cause, so why not enjoy it and play.” Jayla Riehl (10) added,“ I’m sad that the bonfire is over; I do like the games being with my friends.”
Students gathered at the end of the night to watch the fireworks. Although the sight was beautiful, everyone was very sad that this year’s 2024 bonfire was over.
