The Conestoga Valley School District and youth baseball teams from different schools in Lancaster, had the opportunity to connect with one another at CV Night at the Barnstormers. CV Students and staff all came together at Penn Medicine Park around 2pm on Sunday, September 21 to enjoy the Stormers. They also had the opportunity to listen to their own choir sing the national anthem in front of fans in the stadium.
The new athletic director at CV, Frank Hawkins Jr, participated in the first pitch before the game had started. Hawkins went onto the field with others in the CV community, including Assistant Principal Ashley Johnston and her son, with bright smiles on their faces.
According to senior Isaiah Baughman, “My favorite part about this event is that I love to go to this annual event because I get to sing the national anthem and hang out with my friends to watch the baseball game” after performing the anthem.
Isaiah has gone to this event since he was in elementary school, and will always go back to this event even after high school. He knows most of the players on the Stormers so he has other opportunities too to get connections.
Office Administrative Assistant Jeane Miller explained how she adores the event and seeing the community hanging out in such a great environment outside of school grounds.
When asked a question, “What would you change or add about this event?” Miller said, “I think it would be fun for the choir and the community to just meet up and have dinner at a restaurant before or after the event.” Doing this wouldn’t just keep the focus on the baseball game, but focus on the great opportunities to expand your social life.
Dr. Matthew Fox, the CVHS Principal, also participated in this event. He was wowed by the many people who came to this event during a Sunday afternoon. He promoted the choir by talking about how proud he was of them singing the anthem.
Dr. Fox also has some ideas for the future. He said,, “In 2-3 years we could bring the school mascot, have the band, and bring some cheerleaders to show a bigger presence in the community and represent what a fun opportunity this is.”
The school had brought cheerleaders before but this year they “pulled back a bit,” said Dr. Fox.
