Homecoming is an annual event that happens early in the school year. This event takes place on a weekend in October. This year the dance was on October 18th from 7pm to 10pm.
According to High School Principal Dr. Matt Fox, “The hardest part of homecoming was putting up the decorations on a weekend and the football game the night before makes it pretty tough.”
There was a lot of work that went into setting up for the dance, but according to Dr. Fox “the tickets were the easiest part because they were all sold last week and we had a couple of days to set that up.”
Dr Fox had also said that “they [student council members] had to set up the decorations indoors, then they had to get a DJ, then after we got the DJ we had to put the lighting up, then we had to get chaperones, then we had to get enough chaperones in certain places then we had to organize the snack bar, shoe check, and the movie.”
The movie this year was Pirates of the Caribbean to match the “Shipwrecked” theme.
Even with all the work that went into setting up for this one night, Dr. Fox and Mark Shepherd, a student teacher, both thought the best part of homecoming was getting to watch everyone make memories, have a good time, and dance.
While the staff were the ones observing the dance, the students were busy making memories. All the students who were interviewed had a good time at homecoming.
Although the night was amazing, there were some elements that not everyone liked. According to Cassidy Childress, an 11th grader, she didn’t like “the really loud music and the flashing lights because I couldn’t see anything because they were so bright.”
McKayla Vo (11) stated that she wish for the next homecoming that there be “more space available for the students” due to how many people show up to homecoming.
Cassidy Childress added that she wished there were “more activities to do at homecoming because it feels like a random house party on the block.”
The same students appreciated the positives to the night. Cassidy Childress said that “I liked that I was able to see all my friends, even the friends that it felt like an eternity since I last saw them.”
