Coach Holly Winegar is a Millersville Alumni who has cheered for 14 years! Her experience as a cheerleader includes being an athlete herself, coaching, an ex-NCA staff member, judge, and a choreographer. Holly Winegar was a cheerleader for the Millersville Crusaders when she attended college, gaining experience on the sidelines during college Saturday games in so many ways.

For tryouts coming up on May 5th through May 7th, Coach Winegar wants a great turnout. According to Coach Winegar, she “wants a good turnout for tryouts because the more athletes we have, the stronger and more dynamic our team can be. It’s exciting to see so many students interested in being part of something fun, challenging, and rewarding.”

Coach Winegar wants to provide a week full of positive energy for each athlete and wants to watch each athlete grow out of their comfort zone. Winegar adds, “During tryout week, I’m most looking forward to meeting new athletes, seeing their energy and skills, and helping everyone showcase their best.”

Coach Winegar wants a positive turnout for the cheerleading tryouts this season because she wants to watch each individual athlete grow themselves throughout the entire season, and push each other to be better each practice going forward after tryouts.

Coach Winegar also wants each cheerleader to gain confidence on the track no matter if it’s a game or a practice, or even just throughout the tryout process in general. One of the biggest lessons she has learned from being an athlete is that she was able to gain more confidence in herself and have more leadership skills.

Coach Winegar says, “I want to teach future athletes the importance of teamwork, respect, and perseverance. Cheerleading isn’t just about stunts or routines. It’s about learning to support one another, communicate effectively, and keep pushing even when challenges arise.” Coach Winegar wants to create a cheerleading team that is hardworking and dedicated to what they do, and also takes pride in being a part of the family that they are a part of.

The Conestoga Valley Varsity cheerleading team is more than just athletes performing every Friday night. It is a family that grows mentally and physically and faces challenges that come their way. They provide a positive energy throughout practices and games, and also enjoy getting the crowd included in the activities that they do. The cheerleaders provide students the opportunity to gain leadership skills as well, and also gain confidence throughout each game and practice.

Cheerleading is more than just glitter and bows. It’s about the growth and mindset of each athlete, and how they are willing to grow. Not to mention, the team itself is more of a family and a community. Coach Winegar hopes to grow the program in a positive way and see each athlete shine in their own spotlight.
