On Friday, September 15, 2023, Link Crew held their annual freshmen tailgate. The tailgate was held in the field between the old middle school and Conestoga Valley High School.
During the tailgate each year, Link Crew gets together with the freshmen to play backyard games, enjoy music, and provide food before the Friday night football game starts. The purpose of the tailgate is to get the 9th graders more involved and comfortable with the CV community.
Jade Pha, senior and Link Crew leader, and Freshman Jadan Pha said they would go to the tailgate “to participate in fun activities and get involved in the school.” Both siblings would attend tailgate and later on go to the football game.
Link Crew, a peer mentor program, was started in 2000, and has been at CV for around a decade. The link leader consists of juniors and seniors who mentor freshmen into their transition into high school.
Ms. Colette Borden, Reading Specialist and the person who runs Link Crew, would say this about freshmen debating whether to attend the tailgate: “I would tell them that it is a great time for freshmen and Link Leaders to just hang out and have fun before the football game. It is a way to see your Link Leaders in a different light – not in school, but playing cornhole, KanJam, soccer and just having FUN!”
