Mrs. Cathy Jo Lutz, the librarian at CVHS, is leading the way for podcasts to be hosted in the library. She met with teachers on Friday, October 11th to teach them how to use the podcast equipment.
Students will enjoy hosting podcasts, but the main reason for this new facility is so that clubs and groups at CVHS can spread important information throughout the school. This will result in messages being spread more effectively and easily.
Mrs. Lutz said, “I am hoping to get a chance to do some PD (professional development) with teachers in October.” She added, “then it can kinda start that first step with rollout.”
Mrs. Lutz revealed where her idea came from by saying, “I saw at least two different presentations at the secondary tech conference at the IU. They had podcasting studios set up, I got a chance to play with the equipment, it was really easy to use.”
Even though it might have been easy to use for her, she realized it could cause problems for other people. She explained, “I think a lot of times what the problem is with some of that type of equipment is that it’s hard. There are too many buttons, too many things to figure out, so my goal was to get something that was simple and something that everybody could use.”
Mrs. Lutz shared her goal by saying, “In the last two years here I’ve really been trying to get students to want to come into the library and making it a place where we have all this cool stuff in here, so I really just hoping that it would help drag teachers in and students in to be able to make you know our usage go up. I thought it would be innovative.”
To start off the studio, Mrs. Lutz will tell teachers to bring down students to create an assignment for the class. She said, “I definitely would be very excited about having groups that wanted to do their own podcasts, especially for Valley Voice.” She added, “I’m also thinking about using it for First Chapter Friday where we could have books that I read the first chapter or somebody from our book club.”
Ms. Lindsey Bandy, assistant librarian at CVHS, said, “I’ve been on podcasts before because I’m also an author, but I haven’t tried any equipment.” It will be good to have teachers with useful experience such as Ms. Bandy to smooth over the process of recruiting more people.
The podcast at CVHS is anticipated by many, and it will hopefully have a positive impact on the school. Contact Mrs. Lutz for more information about using the podcast studio.
