Brayden Kendig walks into the living room and turns on his TV with a snack in his hand. What better way to start the weekend than to tune into some professional and college sports?
From professional to college sports, he knows it all. Whether it’s watching NFL games on TV or playing basketball with friends, Kendig is happiest when surrounded by the energy of competition. He enjoys watching a variety of teams from the NFL to NBA.
“My favorite team for basketball is the Los Angeles Lakers,” Kendig said. “My favorite team for football is the Cowboys.”
Kendig is a dedicated fan who has attended several Penn State games and a Dallas Cowboys game. After only watching live games from his TV, he decided to discover what it felt like to watch a game live at a stadium.
“I’ve been to one Cowboys game and three Penn State games,” Kendig mentioned.
The atmosphere of college games are much different than professional games, according to Kendig. What stuck out to him was the energy. College games simply had a different level of energy.
“They bring the most energy every game, and if it’s a D1 college team you’re not going to see an empty stadium,” Kendig added.
There was a particular game he went to that stuck out to him.
“Penn State versus Michigan. The stadium was really loud and it was probably the most energy I’ve ever seen,” Kendig said.
For the past 3 years he has been growing a collection of sports memorabilia including signed jerseys, helmets, and a rare LeBron James basketball card. He considers it his most prized possession.
“I got a basketball card of LeBron. There’s only ten of it in the world, that was probably my favorite thing I’ve ever owned,” Kendig noted.
In addition to collecting sports memorabilia, he has taken his love of sports into fantasy leagues.
”I’m in three football leagues and I’m probably going to join a basketball one soon,” Kendig stated.
When it comes to sports rivalries, his favorite is the Cowboys vs Eagles. However, he was quick to criticize Eagles fans.
“If their team does bad, they start to hate whoever did bad on the team until they do good again,” Kendig said. “I feel like it’s putting a lot of pressure on the players.”
Kendig’s love for sports doesn’t end with watching games. He is a fan of highlights, particularly basketball plays that showcase skill and strategy.
Since he is a fan of highlights, he tried some sports editing himself. He used his editing skills from his video production class to create highlight reels of football plays.
“I edited about the CVHS football team and LSU football team,” Kendig added.
Kendig enjoys making predictions, so as for his prediction for this year, he expects the Denver Nuggets to dominate their way to the NBA Finals.
“I think the Nuggets are 100% making the finals. You can’t count that guy out [Nikola Jokic], Kendig said. “He’s probably the best basketball player in a long time, and he doesn’t even try.”
Whether he’s predicting games, collecting memorabilia or discussing rivalries, Kendig will always start the weekend off watching the game of the day in his living room.
