The Vampire Diaries outshines all other supernatural TV series, perfectly balancing romance, drama, and suspense. It is set in the mysterious Mystic Falls, where Elena Gilbert and the Salvatore brothers, Stefan and Damon, go through love, friendship, and their vampire lives. Since the very first episode, it catches your attention with its engaging plot and multi-dimensional characters.
The character development in Vampire Diaries is great, and Nina Dobrev nails Elena’s role in going from the typical school teenager to becoming a vital character in this entire supernatural saga. Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder fill their characters with flair – Stefan and Damon add lots of energy onto the screen, and the contrast of their nature brings tension in, holding up a viewer in his seat.
Completely out-of-the-blue twists, and extreme action overflows in every episode. At the same time, the story of the serial exactly amalgamates the lives of all other vampires, werewolves, and witches. High stake drama is also well-contrasted with warm-hearted moments, and that easily gets you emotionally connected with it. It does a really good job of keeping you on edge.
Visually, the show is strikingly beautiful. The cinematography and special effects create a dark, atmospheric tone that perfectly complements the storyline. Mystic Falls, with its eerie forests and historic architecture, is a picturesque backdrop. The attention to detail in costume and set design further immerses viewers in this supernatural world.
