The Dungeons and Dragons Club isn’t like any other club at Conestoga Valley High School. The club involves a huge amount of collaboration between everyone in the club, which resulted in the group becoming close.
This club has 12 members, all of them students at Conestoga Valley High School. The leader is junior Alex DeChristopher, who sets up the game and leads it for the other students. They meet every Tuesday in Mrs. Mead’s classroom where they play Dungeons and Dragons from right after school to 4:00 P.M.
This friendly club lets anyone join without having to sign up. They just ask for a heads up to be polite.
Once in the club, you’ll see the members talking with each other with a friendly buzz going around the room. The game starts when the dungeon master, the leader of the club, loudly announces his entrance in the room in his wizard costume. Everyone’s attention immediately goes to the dungeon master as the room goes silent. He fills everyone in on what is happening in their game and what each person’s character is doing and the condition of their character. The dungeon master’s remembrance and attention to everybody doesn’t go unappreciated. Everyone looks up to him not just as the leader of the group, but a great friend they can talk to.
The club members sit in a circle while they play Dungeons and Dragons. They talk to each other, discussing what their characters are going to do, whether it’s studying to grow stronger or casting a spell to kill a monster.
Alex DeChristopher (11) said, “There’s a lot of inside jokes.” A lot of the members joke with each other in ways others may not understand, which shows the connection they have with each other.
These cups were specially made by Alex DeChristopher in his Ceramics class. The cups’ design reflects the club because you can use your imagination to do anything.
Alex DeChristopher dresses as a wizard during the club gatherings. He always makes sure people feel comfortable and included while playing Dungeons and Dragons.
This twenty-sided die is probably the most important piece to play Dungeons and Dragons, because the roll dictates whether the character’s move is successful, how effective the move is, what the character can do, and many other things.
This detailed sketch of the dungeon made by one of the members of the club shows how they look forward to coming to the Dungeons and Dragons club each week, as well as the passion they have for the game.
