Photo Essay: What’s it Like to be a CV Today Show Crew Member

Mr. Anthony Thomas’s video production classroom is a fun place to make announcements. “Everyone has their own roles that they contribute to make the morning announcement possible,” said Rafael Massey (11). Some record morning announcements in the TV studio while others edit videos on the computer in the back of the room. There are also students who do the sports highlights and weather for the day.

Conestoga Valley High School’s announcement crew members enjoy working to make the announcements. “I like the freedom when it comes to making videos,” said Chase Wolf (12). They don’t worry about not getting to finish their part of the recording that’s going to be put in the morning announcements.
Morning announcements at CVHS don’t contain only boring information. The announcements also have fun shows for students to watch like “Pit-Stop” where students or teachers are asked to spin a wheel and do the challenges that the wheel lands on. If the challenge the wheel lands on is too hard or embarrassing for them to do, they may choose to respin the wheel as many times as they want until it lands on a challenge they feel comfortable doing.
Chase Wolf uses the camera to record videos for many parts of the TV Today show. He focuses primarily on recording and editing the video while Rafael Massey focuses on interviewing and talking to the subject who is being recorded. Rafael and Chase usually work together to film school activities and after school sporting events. Pit-Stop is one of their favorites to be put on the morning announcements. One of Rafael’s favorite moments while being a part of CV’s TV crew was creating a sports coverage of Spring Grove vs Conestoga Valley.
Editing is a major part of how CV Today makes its announcements possible. They need to ensure that unwanted parts of the recording are cut out of the video before being put on the announcements. They make sure that proper credit is given to the artist whose music is used in the video.
Caleb Martin (11) works on the introduction of the announcements and helps out in the studio. He also picks which quote to be featured on the announcement for “Quote of the Day.” Caleb likes being a part of the CV Today show because producing videos for announcements is very chill and relaxing.
There are new CV studio crew members every year who join in their freshman to senior years of high school. Even though there are years where not enough students sign up for TV studios, they still manage to get the announcements produced for students to see every day with fun entertainment weekly segments.
