Lancaster’s only daily newspaper, the LNP, recently made the difficult decision to close down its downtown offices. This was soon followed by the resignation of its president and CEO, Ron Hetrick. The closure was announced in the LNP on October 7th, 2025.

According to the LNP article, this closure led to the possible end of their 231-year history of having office locations in Lancaster City.

Digby Solomon, the interim publisher for LNP, claims that the downsizing is to conserve spending, rid wasted space, and maximize the quality of journalism done by the LNP.

Mark Avery, Classified Supervisor at the LNP, said that over COVID “people started to learn how to work from home.” When quarantine was over and people could go back to work, “it wasn’t mandatory, so we had all this space basically unutilized.”

In addition to the location change, on January 8 2026, the LNP was gifted to ”Always Lancaster,” a nonprofit organization that will take ownership of the newspaper.

As the LNP searches for a new office location, they have a temporary location at the newspaper printing facility at Susquehanna Printing on Hempstead Road.

Regardless of the move, the LNP will continue to inform, entertain, and write for the people of Lancaster to keep the community and health of this small city intact.
