Abortion is not murder. Women should have a say in what happens to their body, and abortion should be a choice they can make on their own. People who support pro-life are saying that the people who support abortions are advocating for murder, but how is it murder if the fetus isn’t a living being yet?
When the abortion process occurs, the fetus doesn’t have feelings. The fetus at this stage is just a blob of cells maybe with little knots where the head, legs, and arms would be. According to the Lonang Institute, for it to be murder it needs to be a being that can live and breathe on its own.
There’s also the fact that some women don’t want kids and that’s okay. There can be underlying factors, like the woman has a mental health issue and she physically can’t take care of a child or handle even being pregnant. Childbearing takes a large toll on your mental state and physical health. Raising a kid in this day and age is also very expensive, with the financial situations going on today with prices rising. It’s hard for a mother to have a baby when she doesn’t have the resources to care for it properly.
If there are complications with the pregnancy and the mother and baby’s life is at risk the mother should be able to save her life. People are feeling judged for doing what they know is best for them, and that isn’t what America is about. Pro-lifers stand outside abortion clinics to block the way. They have gotten violent, attacking the staff, committing arson, and even bombing the clinics.
In the healthcare system, abortion should be an optional and not just a straight up no. More than 60% of women are in support of legal abortions according to the Pew research center. If you don’t support abortions you don’t have to get one, they’re not doing it to your body but theirs. There are also organizations like the PPFA (Planned Parenthood Federation of America) have linked abortions to helping with over population in adoption centers and just in general.
There’s also the chance of the baby being born with a disability. If the parents or mother don’t think they are capable of taking care of a kid with one they shouldn’t have to. Some disabilities take over their lives and affect the lives of the people around them. The parents’ whole life would have to revolve around their child to help take care of them even when they’re grown. Some people just don’t want that or don’t think they can do it. Statistics from the Pew Research Center have shown that people in their 50-60’s have the lowest support for legal abortion. People in their 30’s to late forties have the majority support for abortion being up to 60%. The millennial generation is also proven to be the most educated generation with the largest amount of bachelors degrees and higher.
The next time you have the chance to vote for women rights, vote pro-choice. Let the choice of a woman’s body be up to them.
