“Frozen,” the musical, is a story filled with the magic of two royal sisters who live completely different lives, one with the power of snow and ice and the other without. The Conestoga Valley High School drama department has taken on the task of turning the musical into a new, extraordinary experience for the audience.
For many people in the drama department, theater is the most important part of their high school life. “Frozen” is different from any other musical CVHS has done.
The drama department’s tech manager, Alana Shenigo (11) said, “It would be more challenging for the crew because there are a lot more quick costume changes, scene changes, and light changes as a whole. For the cast it will be harder for the ensemble since there is such a large number of people and so many more dances.”
The department as a whole doesn’t want the show to look childish, which is why it is so important for everything to run smoothly. The light changes happen quickly, so it’s important that they’re timed correctly. As well as use of projections and moving pieces, like the curtains being used for backdrops, is another huge part of portraying the magic of the show. The crew is putting in a lot of hard work to help the show look dreamy.
Another part of what builds the show’s magic is the dancing. The majority of the cast for this show is ensemble, so the competition for main roles was intense. It is imperative that everyone works together and doesn’t let the role they got control how they perform or treat others.
One of the dancers in the ensemble, junior Reagan Bradley said, “I think it could cause conflict between people, since there are so many people involved in this show. As well as the limited number of lead roles could cause some conflict. But I think it’ll be fun.”
Aralynn Griffith (11) is participating in the musical for the first time. She is “filled with mixed emotions about tech crew, specifically sound and how that’s going to be in the future.” She added, “Judging by my friends that also work in tech, this musical is definitely going to be a handful…This show is going to be very exciting!”
The theater department strives to build a tight-knit, friendly, and welcoming community. Everyone is expected to do their part in each and every production. The department makes it a goal to connect everyone involved to build the community they strive for. This show is going to be no exception and will bring everyone together, even new people.
The production of “Frozen” by Conestoga Valley High School is going to bring a new light to the drama department. Come see “Frozen” at Conestoga Valley High School on April 9th- 12th!
