3 Lego Builds for Any Skill Level

By Jayne Killian-Reed ‘26, Paola Santiago Santiago ‘26, and Kailee Worm ‘27

Building Lego sets can be fun for people of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced builders. Different sets offer different challenges, building times, and creative designs that make each experience unique

In this review, we share our opinions on several popular Lego sets, including flower bouquets, bonsai trees, and cars, from the perspectives of beginner, intermediate, and advanced builders.

We discussed how difficult each set was, how long it took to complete, and what made each build enjoyable or challenging.

“Wildflower Bouquet”

As a beginner (Paola), I’d rank building this flower bouquet a 7 or 8 out of 10 for someone just starting out with Legos. This flower bouquet has different types of flowers and isn’t too difficult to start with as your first Lego set. It took me about 4-5 hours to build (without breaks) and the ending result is really pretty.

As an intermediate (Kailee), I’d rank it a 7/10. This build took me a while, and also broke easily. One little fall broke the build. This Lego took about 2 hours to finish, but still a very fun and beautiful build to look at.

As an advanced (Jayne), this set took me at most an hour and 30 minutes. I would rank it at 6 out of 10. I use these flowers as fillers for my vase. I think these types of Lego bouquets are great for decor around the house and could be used in different ways while decorating.

“Bonsai Tree”

As a beginner (Paola), building this set requires a lot of patience. It’s not too difficult, but it does have a lot of small pieces that can definitely slow down a beginner. This set is really good for decor and if you want a more relaxing experience. This set for a beginner, I’d estimate will take about 2-4 hours to build (non stop). I’d give this set a 6.5/10, great for room decorating, or a gift for a non-Lego builder.

As an intermediate (Kailee), I really love this build and the different ways to customize it the way you would like. This build takes a little longer, but the steps are well written. I rate this building an 8/10. I love to use it as decor for my room.

As an advanced (Jayne), this one did take me a while to build, even as a pro. I would say it took about two hours, and I rate it a 9/10. This particular set goes well with any of the cars you choose. My favorite is the white Ferrari. It would go on the stand that is holding the tree. This set comes with interchangeable leaves; it has pink and white, and the basic green color.

“Cars”

As a beginner (Paola), I enjoyed building car Lego sets. It’s a little bit difficult due to the fact that it’s so many small pieces and making sure everything is aligned correctly. I’d rate this a 10/10 for a first Lego set, and if you like a good challenge, these sets as a beginner are super nice since they are not too big and wouldn’t take up too much time or space. They’re easy to find, affordable, and will look cool in your room!

As an intermediate (Kailee), I really enjoy the car Lego set. One of my favorites is the “Fast and Furious” mention. I love those builds and how they made them; the designs are great. These cars take me about an hour each time I build them. I would definitely recommend them for someone’s first couple builds.  I would rate these 9/10!!!

As an advanced (Jayne), these sets are very diverse and could be anyone’s favorite. Most of the cars take me about an hour to finish. I would rate it 7/10. My favorite car set is Suki’s pink car from “Fast and Furious.” They are smaller, but Lego does have a category with technical builds that feature bigger and harder to make cars. This particular set can be a collectible item.
