CV’s Offensive Outburst Leads to Win Over Former State Champs

By Ethan Miller ‘23

On Friday night, the Buckskins topped the Manheim Central Barons 41-35 in a high scoring affair. The win moved CV to 2-2 on the year and dropped the once-mighty Barons to 1-4.

Senior running back Booper Johnson gave the Bucks an early lead with a 69-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The Bucks added a touchdown pass and a field goal, but the Barons kept pace, taking the lead with a touchdown late in the first half to go up 21-17. Not to be deterred, sophomore QB Macoy Kneisley drove the team down the field on two plays, with three seconds left in the half.

At the Manheim Central 17, the team executed a brilliant trick play, a fake end-around that culminated in receiver Zach Fisher throwing a touchdown to fellow wideout Jaiyell Plowden.

Thus, the Buckskins led the Barons 24-21 at halftime.

In the second half, Conestoga Valley never gave up the lead, but Central was able to keep pace. Early in the third quarter, Plowden scored on an 81-yard end-around to give the Bucks a 31-21 lead. The Bucks maintained a 10 point lead for much of the second half, adding another touchdown and field goal.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Barons were able to chip away at the lead, making it 41-35 Bucks with 3 minutes to go in the game. The Bucks chewed up most of the remaining clock by running the ball, but with under 30 seconds to go, they fumbled the ball back to Manheim.

Fortunately for CV, Central was unable to score, so the Buckskins escaped with a win, 41-35.

Player Of the Week

Sophomore quarterback Macoy Kneisley garnered his first POTW of the season with a great performance Friday night. Kneisley went 8 of 11 on his pass attempts for 218 yards and 2 long touchdown passes, one for 60 yards and the other for 44 yards. The first-year QB showed his talent and promise and hopefully will build on this game throughout the remainder of the season.
