Buckskins Lose to Warwick, Fall to 2-2 Record

By Ethan Miller ‘23

The Buckskins lost to the Warwick Warriors Friday night after an anemic offensive performance, dropping to 2-2 following the 21-10 loss. It was their first league game of the season, putting them at 0-1 in their section.

Coming off of 2 straight wins in which the offense put up big numbers, hopes were high for the Buckskins as they traveled to Lititz to take on the Warriors. On the opening drive, however, the Buckskins failed to gain any momentum and went 3-and-out, punting the ball away early.

While the Buckskin offense struggled to get going, the defense allowed multiple scores by the Warriors. The defense certainly wasn’t an issue during the game – they gave up only 19 points – but they did allow a deficit to form early. An interception of Warwick quarterback Jake Reed gave the Bucks excellent field position, only for QB Macoy Kneisley to cough it up a few plays later when running with the ball unprotected. CV did put together a methodical drive before halftime that marched them down into the Warwick red zone, but they ran out of time and stalled out inside the 10, forcing them to settle for a field goal. The Buckskins trailed Warwick at the half 9-3.

Warwick stormed down the field early in the second half, culminating in a 25-yard touchdown pass from Reed, to take a 16-3 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, CV senior RB Nick Tran returned the kick 95 yards to the house to gain the 7 points right back, cutting the deficit to 6 in favor of Warwick.

The offense had a chance to get back in the game, as the defense continued to get stops, but they faltered once again. After a failed drive deep in their own territory, the snap on the punt was botched and went out of the back of the end zone to give Warwick 2 more points from a safety. The Warriors added a field goal before time ran out to win 21-10.

The loss drops CV to 2-2 on the season, with their next game on Friday, September 23rd. They travel to Solanco to face the Golden Mules, who are 4-0 this year.
