Recently, Conestoga Valley High School held their annual school bonfire. Many clubs and extracurricular activities, like sports and the drama department, joined together to volunteer for this event. One important stand was SADD, Students against Destructive Decisions.

This club had a table selling school shirts and raising money. The club came up with the idea of volunteering 5 teachers to get “pied” in the face. Whichever teacher made the most money at the end of the night got pied. If they raised $1,000, all 5 of them would.

At the end of the event, Assistant Principal and head coordinator of SADD, Mr. Charles Dembrosky, raised the most money under his name. Unfortunately, due to rain, this contest was put on hold and had to be recorded the next day.

Mr. Dembrosky stated, “This money is going to our funds to create more events to spread awareness around the risks of destructive decisions and the impact they have on students.”

Vice President, Olivia Loch, said, “I am very excited to see what this year has to bring for this club. I’m glad I get to work alongside the officers, Abigail Carr (President), Hanna Farrow (Treasurer) and Sophia Calderone (Secretary).”

In addition to the stand, every year SADD also helps with the “Minute to Win it” games up on stage. Hosted by Mr. Dembrosky, the winner from each game received a gift card. Students gathered together and volunteered to play these games.

Towards the end of this event Secretary Sophia Calderone said that she hopes all events are as successful as this one as there are many more to come.

With their fundraiser being a hit, SADD hopes to create and guide many fundraising opportunities and school events this year. Officers and administration are happy to see what this club has to offer.
