Game recaps from select Premier League games from October 16th through October 24th 2021.
MatchDay 8
- Chelsea Vs Brentford
This match was absolutely insane! Chelsea had good possession throughout the match due to Brentford’s inexperience, which is causing them to still struggle at the top level. Though Chelsea had possession, Brentford’s counter-attacking was unmatched, and the only reason Chelsea didn’t concede was because of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, who saved a bicycle kick! The match ended 1-0 in favor of Chelsea with Ben Chilwell scoring the winning goal.
- Manchester City vs Burnley
Manchester City thrashed Burnley, but that was expected due to City’s technical ability on the pitch. To be honest, from the start Burnley stood no chance. Early in, Burnley conceded with Bernado Silva scoring a tap in, but only because of his world-class positioning. Later in the match, world-renowned midfielder Kevin De Byrune managed to get a goal in for Man City with an amazing curler into the far left post. The match ended 2-0 with City on top and king of the match being Bernado Silva.
- Arsenal vs Crystal Palace
Despite Arsenal’s history this season, they were able to hold off Crystal Palace. An early goal was scored by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 8th minute, but after that it just went downhill for Arsenal, with Christian Benteke and newly-signed Odsonne Edouard scoring for Crystal Palace. Was Arsenal going to concede a defeat and ruin their streak? That was what all PL fans thought but out of nowhere the 55th-minute sub Alexandre Lacazette scored in the 90th minute! Arsenal is now five matches unbeaten and two places above Palace.
- Newcastle vs Tottenham
As predicted, Tottenham won, although it was a tough match for both sides. Starting off, things looked bad for Tottenham, with a Newcastle goal in the 2nd minute in the match by Callum Wilson. But later in the match Tottenham found their stride, and were able to have three goals next to their name before halftime. After that, it was a pretty calm game for Tottenham until Eric Dier had an own goal in the 89th minute, but it was too late to have a major consequence ending the game in a tie or a loss.
- Leeds vs Southampton
Finally Southampton ended the game with 3 points to their name after they beat Leeds 1-0. At the 53rd minute mark the Saints took the lead that they deserved with Armando Broja smashing the net with his goal, becoming the first Albanian to score in the top flight of England. With this win, Southampton is out of the relegation zone while Leeds is demoted to 17th place in the standings.
MatchDay 9
- Southampton vs Burnley
Burnley was able to get ahead of Southampton in the 13th minute with an amazing finish by Maxwel Cornet. Furious with that, Southampton returned two goals to be in the lead with Livramento and Broja scoring, but this seemed to not be enough. Seven minutes later Burnley sent back the punch to Southampton, equalizing the game with Maxwel Cornet’s 2nd goal. The game ended in a tie and put Southampton in 16th place, while Burnley is yet to have won a game, sitting in 18th place.
- Man City vs Brighton
Man City impressed again and truly exhibited why they are one of the most feared teams in England. Man City was able to end the game with a 4-1 margin. Wonderkid Phil Foden was able to bag two goals in THREE minutes while his teammates Riyad Marhez and Gundogan also scored 1 each. Brighton was able to score on a penalty in the 81st minute but it just wasn’t enough to grab the win from City. Although Brighton is doing above their standards this season they could not handle the technically gifted Man City team and stay in fourth, while Man City leapt into 2nd place.
- Arsenal vs Aston Villa
Expect the unexpected. Arsenal’s unbeaten streak is now 7 games, with a 3-1 win against Aston Villa. The kid who plays his heart out everyday for Arsenal, Emil Smith Rowe, scored one goal and assisted one and got named man of the match. Things started good for Arsenal as Thomas Partey was able to score a goal in the 23rd minute, his first goal ever in the Premier League. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also put his name on the scoreboard once again with his penalty shot rebound, and the game ended with Arsenal on top.
- Watford vs Everton
What an action-packed match this was. Starting off the match early, Everton’s Tom Davies scored a goal. Soon after, Joshua King got his revenge over his former club and scored against Everton in the 13th minute. This match looked like it could land both ways with a win for Everton or Watford but soon after Everton Brazilian Magician Richarlison de Andrade put a goal in to bring back the confidence within the Everton squad, but all this did was make Watford want it more. In the dying minutes Juraj Kucka scored an amazing header to tie up the game but Watford knew 1 point wasn’t enough. Joshua King 2 minutes later scored a goal, then in 6 more minutes he scored another, completing his hat trick. To put the icing on the cake Emanuel Dennis scored for Watford as well, ending the game 2-5 in Watford’s favor.
