Twins Lose MLB Record 16th Straight Playoff Game in Game 3

With the regular season coming to a close, here’s how the MLB Playoff Bracket looks at the moment.

National League Wild Card Game

Where: Washington, DC

Date: Tuesday, October 1st

Result: Washington 4, Milwaukee 3

The Nationals advanced to the NLDS thanks in large part to a fielding error by Brewers outfielder Trent Grisham. The young outfielder let a ground ball under his glove, which allowed all three runners to score and propelled the Nationals to a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the 8th. Said Grisham, speaking to the New York Post, “It’s going to sting. It’s going to sting for a long time.” The Nationals moved on to face the LA Dodgers in the NLDS. 

American League Wild Card Game

Where: Oakland, CA

Date: Wednesday, October 2nd

Result: Tampa Bay 5, Oakland 1

The Rays beat the A’s thanks in large part to two home runs by Yandy Diaz (one leadoff the game.) Tommy Pham and Avisail Garcia also homered and starting pitcher Charlie Morton went five strong innings. The Rays now advance to the ALDS to face the Astros.

American League Divisional Series

New York Yankees VS Minnesota Twins

Best of 5 Series; NY won 3-0

The Yankees were victorious Monday night as they completed a sweep of the Minnesota Twins. The loss, according to Deadspin, was the Twins’ 16th straight postseason loss (an MLB record) dating back to 2004. The final score was 5-1, as Luis Severino went 4 shutout innings. The Yankees advance to the ALCS to face the winner of HOU-TB.

Houston Astros VS Tampa Bay Rays

Best of 5 Series; Houston leads 2-1

The juggernaut offense that is the Houston Astros jumped out to an early 2-0 series lead behind their amazing rotation and quite possibly the best offense in the MLB. On Monday, however, the Rays fought to stay in the series and managed to win 10-3 in front of the largest crowd Tropicana Field had seen since 2016, according to The Tampa Bay Times. The Rays hope to even the series in Game 4.

National League Division Series

Atlanta Braves VS St. Louis Cardinals

Best of 5 Series; Series is Tied 2-2

The Cardinals forced Game 5 on Monday with a walk-off victory in the tenth inning at home. This series has gone back and forth. The Braves won games 1 and 3, and the Cardinals won games 2 and 4. Game 5 is set to be on Wednesday in Atlanta. The probable starters for that game are Jack Flaherty for St. Louis and Mike Foltynewicz for Atlanta. The winner of this game goes the NLCS.

Los Angeles Dodgers VS Washington Nationals

Best of 5 Series; Series is Tied 2-2

After falling down 2-1 in this series, the Nationals rode Max Scherzer en route to a 6-1 victory to knot the series up at 2. Scherzer, pitching on short rest, went 7 one-run innings. Long-time National Ryan Zimmerman hit a long home run that set the tone for the Nats’ win. Game 5 will feature Walker Buehler for LA and Steven Strasburg for Washington. The game is on Wednesday and is in LA.
