Fans of Disney’s Descendants franchise will be thrilled to hear the recent news of a big announcement.On March 5th, Disney Channel’s Twitter account teased the news via a short video featuring Sarah Jeffery, the actress who has played Audrey in the previous films.
The video was accompanied with a brief caption: “@sarahjeffery knows some BIG #DisneyDescendants news! All will be revealed in the finale of #SecretsofSulphurSprings on March 12.”
In the video, Jeffery promises “jaw-dropping” Descendants news. That same day, the Twitter account for Descendant 3 tweeted a similar video, this time featuring Booboo Stewart, Descendant’s Jay.
Stewart does not give much more information regarding the announcement, other than mentioning that it’s a “big something” that a lot of fans have been waiting for. Despite the small teaser, fans didn’t have long to wait. By the next Friday, the news was released as part of the commercials during Disney’s newest show, Secrets of Sulphur Springs.
Through a charming and magical animation, Mal, voiced by Dove Cameron, spoke in a rhyme.
“Through many years, our love was tried, but our connection could not be denied. A million moments led to this, where bride and groom will share a kiss.”
Continuing off of Ben’s proposal in Descendants 3, Disney gives fans an animated special titled Descendants: The Royal Wedding.
In an interview with People magazine, the president and chief creative officer of Disney Branded Television, Gary Marsh, confirmed that the late Cameron Boyce’s character, Carlos, will not go without acknowledgement and that Boyce will be honored during the special. Boyce died the summer of 2019 from complications with his epilepsy, right before the release of Descendants 3. Fans are pleased to know that there will be a tribute to the beloved actor.
Marsh also gave a statement to People saying, “It [Descendants] had the benefit of immensely talented stars, who we now welcome back for the animated ‘Royal Wedding’ special that will bridge the audience to what we hope will be a new chapter of compelling ‘Descendants’ stories and characters yet to come.”
That “new chapter” could feature Descendants’ youngest characters, including Anna Cathcart’s Dizzy Tremaine and Jadah Marie’s Celia Facilier. Who knows what more could be in store from the Descendants franchise?
Till then, fans can look forward to watching Descendants: The Royal Wedding, coming to Disney this summer!
