On Wednesday, October 11th, at 6:30 p.m., Conestoga Valley will be having its annual community bonfire on the Junior Varsity football field at Conestoga Valley High School. This is an event that will help raise money for the school, while also bringing the CV families together.

The bonfire is filled with many different activities that include games, music, and food. Most of the community enjoys being around the food stands and the games that are provided. Games include an eating contest, tissue pulling, and much more.

Junior Jackson Byers said, “I thought it was fun and there was a lot to do. My favorite activity was probably the ping pong thrown into a bowl because I got a fish, or the fireworks, those were good.”

The annual bonfire has been going on since 2008. Many different clubs come together to organize and run stands that night, such as SADD, PoWER, IMPACT, and many more. Fire trucks from Witmer are also included during the bonfire. They allow kids to go up to experience what it is like from the top of the ladder.

At the bonfire, the school gives recognition to those who are in sports, and also announce the homecoming court for the year. There are performances from the Step team, Varsity cheerleaders, and the Marching Band.

The CV cheerleaders will do different chants and stunts in front of the fire for entertainment. Varsity cheerleader Olivia Hernandez (10) shared, “I enjoy stunting in front of the fire and hanging out with my friends.”

Sophomore Riley Wilde expressed, “I love how family-like our community is. I also like how the bonfire brings people and clubs together and helps with good causes.”

Primarily, the bonfire is an event to bring together the community to enjoy a night out with friends and family. It has some other activities as well for little ones such as face painting and taking pictures with the mascot.

Freshman Phillip Ngo stated, “All the activities were fun and I enjoyed being around my family and friends watching the fire.”

In the event of rain, the Bonfire will have a make-up day of Wednesday, October 18th at 6:30 p.m.
