On Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, at 8:00 a.m., Conestoga Valley High School held its annual homecoming pep rally. This is a lively event where the school comes together to enjoy games and announces the 2023 homecoming court.

The pep rally is run by Student Council. They put together fun activities, music, and performances. Some activities that are included in the pep rally are eating contests, relay races, hungry hippos, etc.

There is a lot of preparation for the pep rally every year. Student Council President Maya Harner (12) commented, “The day before we get there extra early to run through again and make sure everything is ready!”

It started with the opening skit, where a group of students came out to the song “Barbie” and sat in the middle of the gym pretending to watch the movies Pirates of the Caribbean and Minions.

Student Council proceeded to get students engaged with the pep rally through a variety of activities. The classes got very hyped to see who wins each round of activities.

Ahmad Mhusen (11) said, “I thought the games were okay, not the most fun or new. They should try introducing something new and more competitive than sweeping a squash across the floor.”

Before the main event, the CV Step Team performed. It started with the main group of girls performing, then they added in their newcomers. Each girl had their role in part of the performance.

During the pep rally, the homecoming court got announced. Each person on the court had an escort who walked them out while confetti burst around them. Unique music played for each person, and then they performed a special handshake with their escort.

Homecoming court is an opportunity for the senior class to pick through a list and vote for nominees to be on the court. The girls chosen go through a process of choosing escorts and creating new bonds with each other.

Coralie Hardin (12) stated, “The experiences I had on homecoming court was being a part of something that everyone was watching, usually it is nerve-racking to many people, but it was so much fun! I’m so happy I had the opportunity to be on the court. I made many bonds with everyone that was involved. I loved seeing everyone’s personalities shown so publicly because all these people are so sweet and supportive of one another. I chose my escort Josh because I’ve been so close with him. Our energy matches so well and I’m so happy I got to share the experience with him on the court.”

After the introduction of the court, the escorts had their own performance. They danced to Ryan Gosling’s Barbie ballad and Rihanna’s “Umbrella.” The crowd went wild with excitement.

The Homecoming Pep Rally shows that no one does “pep” like CV!
