Conestoga Valley girls soccer team was defeated by Warwick on September 20, 2023 at Warwick’s high school soccer field. Warwick is in the top three of Section 1 and took the win against Conestoga Valley with a score of 5-0.

CV was coming off a win against Cedar Crest, while Warwick was coming off a loss against Hempfield. CV’s record before this game was 2-5 and Warwick’s was 4-3, so CV knew this was going to be a tough game.

However, before the game, CV players expressed hopefulness. “I think we’re ready. We practiced on communicating more and stepping to the ball yesterday in practice, so I think we will show improvement on that. We just have to go out there and play hard,” said CV player Hallie Schnapf (11) as the team was warming up.

Following the teams’ warmups, the game started at 7:00 PM under the lights. The starting 11 for both teams came out, positioning themselves strategically. Warwick started with the ball and ended up scoring a goal in the first minute of the game.

The game quickly progressed, and CV was still fighting for it, not letting Warwick push them around. Warwick players strung together passes and used their ball skills to get past CV to score more goals.

The game went until around 9:00 PM, with a final score of 5-0, Warwick taking the win. The teams walked in a line and said “good game” to each other, showing good sportsmanship.

“I feel we played hard. I could tell our coaches were a little disappointed, but I think we put in effort. There is always room for improvement and that’s what practice is for. We can’t focus on the past, we have to prepare ourselves for the next game,” said CV player Ashley Figart (11) following the game.

“This game did not go as expected. We went out there and tried, but it unfortunately did not go our way. There are definitely things to work on, but we have to focus on our next game,” said Tom Erickson, Conestoga Valley varsity girls soccer team head coach, after the game had ended.

As Warwick takes the win over this game, Conestoga Valley prepares themselves for their next game on Friday, September 22, 2023 against Governor Mifflin.
